Lisa V. For Mayor

“People Over Politics. Always.”

Lisa Vanderkwaak is running for Mayor of Beaumont to restore trust, protect what matters, and put local voices back at the center of decision-making.

My Vision for Beaumont

My vision for Beaumont is a thriving, connected community where families and individuals feel safe, valued, and supported in every season of life.....from newborns to seniors.

I believe in respectful growth that protects our small-town character while creating opportunities for businesses to flourish. With strong leadership, accountability, and community collaboration, we can build a city that combines affordability, beauty, safety, and quality of life.

—making Beaumont the most desirable place to live, work, raise a family, and do business.

Countdown to Election Day!

Also Known as ‘Lisa V,’ .......I’m stepping up to serve Beaumont residents with bold integrity and a clear focus on what truly matters: People.

I’m running for Mayor to bring REAL CHANGE:

People Over Politics. Always.

Beaumont needs a course correction.
Residents are frustrated with higher taxes, weaker services, and unaccountable decision-making.
It’s time for new leadership, new ideas, and a mayor who will listen and act.

Beaumont is a place families chose for its safety, character, and unique charm — a community built on timeless values like integrity, stewardship, and creating a safe place for families to thrive. But lately, it seems that local needs have taken a back seat to global agendas, and municipal decisions have left too many residents feeling unheard and over-taxed.

It’s time to restore common sense leadership that puts Beaumont families first, preserves what makes us unique, and stewards your tax dollars with transparency and care. If elected, I will serve with humility & honesty and prioritize what matters most to you — because the future of Beaumont belongs in the hands of those who call it home.

Why I’m Running

ABOUT LISA VANDERKWAAK

Lisa (Dewar) Vanderkwaak brings a blend of strong leadership, lived experience, and strategic vision to her candidacy for Mayor. Since moving to Beaumont in 2005, she has raised her three children here, overcome the challenges of being a young widow and single mom, and built a successful business from the ground up.

For more than 18 years, Lisa has thrived as an entrepreneur — including five years as a storefront owner — and today enjoys life with her husband, David, exploring Beaumont’s trails and supporting local businesses.

Lisa offers an extensive track record of leadership and governance. She has chaired boards, created policy, strengthened organizations and overseen responsible management. REGIONAL PARTNERSHIPS

Build strong regional partnerships that directly benefit Beaumont families and businesses. And by working with neighbouring communities we can bring in opportunities, services, and resources that help our city thrive.

RESPECTFUL GROWTH

Review and revise growth plans so they reflect what Beaumont residents want and protect the uniqueness of our neighbourhoods. Together, we can preserve our small-town roots while safeguarding the community values we cherish.

RESTORE TRUST & TRANSPARENCY

Restore trust in council by making transparency the standard for every decision and every dollar spent. Beaumont deserves accountable leadership that puts residents first and keeps finances clear and responsible.

RE-FOCUS ON LOCAL PRIORITIES

Refocus on local priorities with excellent customer service and reliable core services. Invest the infrastructure residents need to thrive today and into the future.

REDUCE WASTEFUL SPENDING & DIVERSIFY TAX BASE

Reduce wasteful spending to prevent unnecessary tax increases, while exploring partnerships with the private sector to diversify Beaumont’s tax base. By attracting more non-residential services—like medical clinics and labs—we can ease the burden on families and meet the growing needs of our community.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

As I am talking to residents, I hear many of the same questions and concerns about our city’s future.

People want clear answers—not empty promises.

While a mayor has only one vote on council, I believe strong leadership can set the tone, cast the vision, and hold administration accountable to deliver on what matters most to residents. Here are some of the most common questions I’ve been asked, and how I plan to address them if elected as your mayor.

1. What will you do about rising taxes in Beaumont?

I can’t promise to stop all tax increases, but I will push for responsible financial stewardship. That means reducing wasteful spending, exploring creative solutions to offset the residential tax burden, and diversifying our tax base by attracting more non-residential businesses and essential services like medical clinics and long-term care facilities. By matching up needed service providers with local investors, I will explore the potential of getting services such as Medical clinics (Doctors and Nurse Practitioners), Medical Labs, Long term care facility, X-Ray / Ultra-sound clinic. and Performing Arts centre, etc.

2. What about all the high-density development?

Residents are concerned that development is moving too fast and doesn’t reflect the community’s vision. I will call for a pause so we can review and revise our plans and by-laws. Growth should protect Beaumont’s small-town character and uniqueness while still providing the infrastructure and housing we need.

3. How will you fix poor service delivery to residents?

Too many residents feel they’re not getting value for the taxes they pay. I will call for a review of city services to identify where gaps exist and push for a clear plan to improve customer service and the timely delivery of core services that families rely on.

4. There seems to be poor communication between council and administration. How will you address this?

Council sets the vision and direction for the city—administration is responsible for implementing it. That line has been blurred. I will work to restore accountability by ensuring council’s priorities are clear, measurable, and tracked, while requiring transparent reporting from administration so residents know exactly how decisions are being carried out.

5. How will you improve communication between council and residents?

Residents deserve open and honest communication, not spin. I will advocate for clear, consistent channels—regular updates, open forums, and more opportunities for residents to be heard. A healthy community depends on trust, and that starts with transparency.

6. Beaumont has a reputation for being one of the hardest places to do business. How will you change that?

We need to turn that reputation around. I will push to improve the permitting and licensing process so contractors, trade workers, and business owners can thrive here without unnecessary delays or red tape. By becoming known as a business-friendly city, we can grow our non-residential tax base and create opportunities for local jobs and services. As these areas improve , I will actively champion and promote Beaumont in the region as a place worth investing in.

7. What role do you see for regional partnerships?

Regional collaboration should directly benefit Beaumont residents—not distract from our local needs. I will work with neighboring municipalities and other levels of government to secure partnerships that bring value, such as shared services, funding for infrastructure, and access to new opportunities for local businesses and families.

8. Residents are worried about increased crime and decreased safety in Beaumont. How will you address this?

Families need to feel safe in their own neighborhoods. I will advocate for stronger policing, fire and emergency services in Beaumont, including 24/7 coverage, so we can respond to crime, break-ins, and emergencies quickly and effectively. Public safety must be a top priority for our growing city.
